I write you this morning to share some emergent news in the enviro-political stage. Later today, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will approach the U.S. Senate with an amendment to the Economic Stimulus Package which would stipulate full funding of the Green Jobs Act. The Act created a green job workforce training program and was actually included in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 but has yet to be funded.
Sen. Sanders' EPA Statement 1/24/08
Since the Act has been floating aimlessly in the land of good ideas for too long, we need to put pressure on the Senate to take care of business, and NOW! Here's the quick-and-dirty list of what you can do to help:
- Call your Senator's DC office TODAY - as soon as you read this! Contact info for all Senators is available here.
- Speak with the Staff person working on the Economic Stimulus Package.
- Ask for your Senator to support the Sanders Amendment to fully fund the green job workforce training program.
for all NJ Residents:
~
Please do take a moment to call your Senator - it will only take a few minutes, and every person really counts when it comes to social and environmental change. Be sure tell your friends, family, and coworkers so they can get involved. And if you get through to your Senator's office, please leave me a comment and let me know. I'm going to keep track of how many people I know who call in - let's see how much of a ruckus we can cause!
I'll finish with a quick nod to the Sierra Student Coalition
and Green For All for their informative newsletters, invaluable resources and hard work. Visit their sites to subscribe & get more ideas on how you can serve the environmental cause.

Happy dialing!
Joann
