And otherwise, I think you have all the info you'll need to make it out tonight!

FRI Nov 16: Legends Gourmet Pizza in Burlington, NJ - warm up with pizza & me!

Hey folks!

It is finally cold...or is it? Will it turn 80 degrees and humid again in a couple of days? Good grief, I hope not. But for tonight the chill is on, and I'm hoping you'll join me for an evening on the town. Step in from the cold for a bite to eat and some good company; I'll be playing music HERE tonight:

Legends Gourmet Pizza
318 High St
Burlington, NJ 08016

FRI, Nov 16
7-10 PM

(Google directions)

tel (609) 386- 3001

The owners recently opened a wine/beer store next door, so Legends has now become a B.Y.O.B. Either way, it's a quaint venue towards the end of High St, small and intimate, and the pizza is truly gourmet. The menu offers specialty pies and salads, named for various legends of screen and stage, or you can select gourmet ingredients to make your own custom creation. And you can watch it being made while you relax... Ok, now I'm getting hungry!

(ps - my favorite is still the "Jimi" after Mr. Hendrix, which includes: Wild Mushrooms, Spinach, Balsamic Onions & Goat Cheese)

It's always a good time to see friendly faces, enjoy live music, and eat some tasty fare. That being said, I hope to see you at Legends Gourmet Pizza a little bit later on this evening. And have a great day, all!

Peace,
Joann

Powershift '07 (pt 1)

Hey there folks...

I know it's been a while, I just wanted to let you know where I am these days - I've been in College Park, MD at UMd for Powershift '07, the first-ever national conference for students on climate change.

Visit the Powershift '07 site for more info.

I will definitely be posting again about this event (for now, I must retire), but just one brief note: I drove down stag yesterday (Fri 11/2), not sure where I'd be sleeping, but having secured a couple of couch-surfing offers thanks to this cute button:

...and as I was about to check-in, what should I hear but, "Joann...cousin Joann!" It's my 1st cousin Amy Austin. I had no idea she attended the University of Maryland, and it's been a good 5 years since we've seen each other, so while she recognized me, I wouldn't have exactly picked her out of a crowd. (Plus, she dyes her hair now. All grown up!?)

But she found me - right place, perfect time - and I find myself on Night 2 of having a safe & warm bed all to myself, courtesy of my blood-ties, and a chaperone to help me navigate around this obscenely-large campus. Makes me appreciate Rutgers even more.

I'll do a follow-up posting on this tomorrow or Monday to more fully describe my experience this weekend. Off to bed with me.

'til then.

DRFF Song Circle: Sunday, Oct 14

A Happy Sunday to you all!

And this is the 2nd Sunday of the month, which means the Delaware River Folksong Fellowship (DRFF) - a song circle some friends and I created a few years back - is having its meeting later on this afternoon. The full details of today's meeting, which runs from 4-6pm, can be found at the DRFF's Myspace profile.

But here are the brief details, for those of you who might want to attend:

Date & time: Sunday, Oct 14 @ 4-6pm

at the

Home Fine Art Gallery, 2 Church St, Mt Holly, NJ, 08060

Cost: FREE (though $ and food donations accepted gladly!)

This month's theme: HISTORY

Despite the "folksong" in the name of the group, we are not a strict folk group (and any of you who've heard me play can attest to this...), so know that all styles and instruments are welcome. You can also attend as a listener, if you want to relax and make new friends, and listen to some great local music!

And if you're not familiar with the area, here's a Google Map to the Home Gallery.

We hope to see you there!

Good morning, early birds!

You'll have a few hours to catch the worm, cause there's a gig later on this afternoon I wanted to tell you about: Medford's first Autumn Wine & Jazz Festival is happening today from 1-4pm, and I'll be one of the performers dotting Main St with music. I believe I'm on the Stiles/Medford Dentistry porch, but I won't know for sure until I get there and sign in. (Listen for me, and look for the red hair...which is now short!!)

It's the town's first - and hopefully not last - jazz fest, free to attend, but if you want a commemorative glass filled with wine for the day's enjoyment, visit the Historic Medford Village Assocation online, or call 609-714-8811 for details.

Here's the scoop in my own words:

Cafe Madison show: Tue Sept 18 @ 7-10pm

Greetings folks!

I wanted to invite you all to tonight's show - if you have no plans yet, I know you would enjoy dining at this evening's venue, the Cafe Madison in Riverside, NJ.

This new, classy restaurant (opened in May) has a lovely grand piano (lucky me!), waterfall walls (I never get over how cool this is...), a curvaceous and spacious interior (said to be designed with the ladies in mind), and a gourmet menu. Worry not, though, my more casual friends; there is a bar right next to the piano, and a bar menu for you nibblers and grazers.

Here are the details, if you can make it:

Atlantic City Awaits Us Tonight! (SAT 8/25)

That's right, fellow earth-dwellers...

Soon I'll be traveling down to Atlantic City, NJ to play my first-ever A.C. gig at the most hospitable Tun Tavern, the city's only brewery and restaurant! I'll be providing 4 hours of music tonight at this well-established venue, and while I play and you enjoy, you can sample from a selection of handcrafted brews, and pair from the dinner menu to satisfy all tastes.

(If you're interested: I recommend the Salmon Oscar.)

I invite all well-meaning, able-bodied souls to come join me for a great night of music and food at the Tun, so here's all the info you'll need (I hope) to join me for the show, should you desire:

Saturday Aug. 25, 10pm - 2am

Tun Tavern Restaurant & Brewery
2 Miss America Way, Atlantic City, NJ 08401

~

Call 609-347-7800 or visit the Tun on the web for more details.

...and here's the Google Map for you planners out there...

Please remember, tonight's debut I'll be playing this place - and Atlantic City in general - tonight, so I'm hoping to see some friendly faces in support, and in interest of a good meal and a good time!

I think I'll try a glass of the Devil Dog Pale tonight, an "English-style Pale Ale...a classic style EPA with imported British malts and a Tun of British aroma hops. [with a] sweet maltyness and firm body, along with a refreshing hoppy finish..."

(a preview of what's to come)
~

I also checked the weather for you - Atlantic City should be warm and humid, with a small chance of rain. (...get your radar/weather maps here...)

And the Tun also offers free parking with validation, see below for the map:

(...well, you actually might want to click here to view a larger version...)

One final note on tonight's venue: the Tun Tavern prides itself in its marine heritage and invites you to learn more about its history, which dates back to 1685. Interesting stuff...

Well, I believe that's it for the invitation. I must be off now to some other tasks, in preparation for the evening. A great day to all, and I'll see you tonight at 10!

in peace,
Joann

Birches Restaurant: Saturday, Aug 18 at 7pm ~ dinner & song!

Good morning, friends!

I'm back on the horse, emailing and blogging my great big heart out, in efforts to have you join me on the town for some local fare and music.

If you missed the info earlier this week, I have a show tonight in Burlington, NJ, at Birches Restaurant (named for the Robert Frost poem of the same name).

And at Birches, you will "dine beneath a cathedral of birches," petrified, with silken leaves. Spacious with high ceilings, sumptuous food, a real piano...and me! I don't know what more you could ask for on a Saturday night, but let me know if you think of anything!

But truly, it would be great to see you out tonight. And bear in mind - this is a family establishment, so while there is an amply-stocked bar for you of-agers, all generations are welcome at this venue.

Folklistics Original Music showcase gig TONIGHT - Kaffa Crossings Cafe, Philly!

Tonight I'll be playing a 1-hr set as part of the "Folklistics" Original Music Series at Kaffa Crossings Cafe in Philly (University City, I believe, is the district...). The show goes on from 7-10pm and includes two other local artists (whose names I don't know) doing sets as well.

Hope to see you soon, and have a great night!

Risen from the ashes, I am!

Greetings, folks!

Sorry for the absence - if you noticed and/or cared - I've been swamped the last few weeks with...

1. Dealing with a most serious case of *POISON IVY* that is still healing after over a week of trouble, eventually succumbing to a medical doctor's care and prescription steroids...for anyone who knows me personally and my preferences for all-natural living, you know this is tantamount to insanity for me!

Tips to Identify Poison Ivy
(guess I needed a little help this time...)

*** *** ***

2. Cooking, cleaning, living, breathing, mommying, gardening (well, until the poison ivy hit...), and so on.

3. Planning the summer for myself (and the little one)

*** *** ***

But I'm now finally getting my act back together, and I wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and kicking. In fact, I'll be back on the scene TONIGHT as your Hostess-with-the-Mostess at the Bridgetown Pub's weekly open-mic. (Oh, and if you want to be sure to hear me play, my solo set is from 8:30-9pm, though I sometimes play again later and occasionally will join in on someone else's set when asked...)

*** *** ***

Details here:

WHEN: Tues July 3, 2007 @ 8:30pm
WHERE: Bridgetown Pub, 44 High St, Mt Holly, NJ, 08060
WHO: Joann Ellis (8:30-9pm), OPEN STAGE (9-12+)

Acts usually get 3 songs each, so come early to sign up...and bring your friends!

*** *** ***

Visit the Bridgetown Pub online for further info, including: regular and late-nite menus, beer and wine lists, drink specials, and more.

You can also call the Pub at 609-291-6900 for a real live person...

And here's the link for the Google Directions if anyone needs them!

*** *** ***

I suppose that's about it for now. It would be great to see you out there tonight, celebrate pre-Independence Day, have a bite and a brew, listen to some tunes (and maybe play also!), and just have a great time with us. I'll be looking for you, so be sure to say hi!

Peace,
Joann

Medford's HMVA Annual Art & Music Fest: Sunday June 3rd @ 11am

Good morning, friends!

Join me later today for Medford, NJ's Art and Music Festival, presented by the Historic Medford Village Assocation (HMVA). This annual event features local fine artists, crafters, and performers, and will be staged along historic Main Street between Branch St. & Allen Ave. The event is FREE and open to all ages, running from 11am to 5pm. (Beware: Main St - or most of it - will be closed to cars between approx. 8:30am and 5:30pm, so plan accordingly. Full details can be found on the Medford Township event page.)

It's good to return as a performer for the Fest - this is not my first time as a participant, though it's been a few years. I also enjoy being part of the HMVA's Annual Dickens Festival in December, also held on Main St, which offers a variety of holiday entertainment, music, and carolers, along with vendors of warm cider and other yummy and helpful things in the cold...but I digress!

Let me get back on track:

WHAT: HMVA's Annual Art & Music Festival
WHAT ELSE: Joann Ellis Music
WHEN: 11am to 2pm (remember, the Fest goes 'til 5!)
WHERE: Main Street, Medford, NJ, 08055

* Or visit my online iCal for a fancier version of my Calendar *
(Thanks Apple!)
~

Humorously enough, I'm actually not sure whether I'm to be at Main St Family Dentistry at 76 N Main, or Medford Village Dental Care at 25 N Main, so I'd just suggest you just get to Main and listen for the sounds...and walk around and find me.

(a previous summer's Fest on Main St)
~

For those of you not familiar with Medford or how to get here, feel free to check out the Google map, or directions from discovermedford.com.

That's probably all you need to know to attend the Fest today. It should be a great time for all, and I am very much looking forward to a day of play and creativity for us all to share. Please come join me!

Until then.

A good sunny day to any and all readers!

I hope all of you have been well since I last wrote. (Of course!)

Forsaking any additional delay, I would like now to cordially and formally invite you to venture out this evening to join me for a meal, musical entertainment, and a whole lot of ambience, as the

For directions, I give you two options:

Cafe Madison site map

And a few last words on the bar menu, if you'll permit me - I've been told by a close friend and culinary confidante that that the Kobe Mini Burgers are succulent and of a high quality, and I can say from personal experience that the Classic Margherita Basil flatbread was basil-y-licious! Good words have also been heard around town regarding the Asparagus & Goat Cheese Soup off the menu of the Cafe proper. The rest is as of yet mystery to me...

Well, it seems I must go for now...I have some ivories to tickle, and preparations to make.

See you tonight, and be well until then!

Myspace - personal v.50

Good day, friends!

I just wanted to share the following YouTube find, worthy of more than a few chuckles, by filmmaker Keith Snyder. I discovered Keith (and his work) thanks to seeing some of his comments on my dear friend Doug Wyatt's page.

View the video:

I'd be interested to know if anyone out there appreciates this. Or, better yet, check out Keith's YouTube profile and let him know yourself! I haven't checked out the rest of his videos, but I'm sure they hold promise...

And on a totally different note, I just found an anti-war-in-Iran petition and related efforts at stopiranwar.com, so if anyone wants to view the site and put in your two-cents, click here:

I wonder if someone did one of this for the Iraq conflict. And I wonder if President Cronie gives 1% of a rat's ass what Americans are thinking and feeling. (Probably not.)

Well, at the risk of seeming abrupt, I'll be signing off now! A great day to all.

Peace,
Joann

Courier Post blog v.23: Open Mic Tuesday!

Greetings!

It's a lovely day of warmth here in New Jersey, and I hope you are able to enjoy it! In a few hours I'll be heading off to host tonight's open mic at the Bridgetown Pub in Mt Holly, beginning at 8:30pm (sign-up begins at 8).

This weekly event features a 1/2-hour opening set by the
host (me tonight, Sharis next week, and so on...), followed
by open stage 'til midnight or beyond!

Full details:

Acts normally get 3 songs, so get there early to sign up for a slot! Please remember to be tuned and prepared for your turn, and remember to accompany others only when asked. You can always feel free to ask for someone's accompaniment or other backup - it's a great way to make new friends and good music!

Please come out and join us tonight on Main Street Mt Holly for the good food, beer on tap, wine, and more at the Bridgetown Pub! It's a kind-hearted crowd, always full of regulars and new faces alike, and you're sure to leave eager to return...

See you there!

Peace,
Joann

MySpace - music v.40

Happy Monday!

I wanted to let you all know I put up a new song on my MySpace music profile this morning, which I composed about 2-3 years ago, called "Lover Fair."

Click here to listen to the new track!

Also currently featured on my profile are these other tunes, for your listening pleasure:
  • How It Would Be
  • Reality tv
  • Brother (remix)
  • Lilac Wine (J. Shelton)
I'd love to get your feelings on "Lover Fair," a slow, melancholy number which asks for a patient ear and open heart for the best effect. And for all you audiophiles out there: I will happily ship a free cd compiling some of my recorded to work to the first person to figure out from which song by The Orb I've nabbed a little riff.

I'll give you a hint, it's from this album:

Let me know if you need more clues...but see what you can make of it first. I'm looking forward to your feedback...and in the meanwhile, have a great day!!

Peace,
Joann

Courier Post blog v.21

Good afternoon, friends!

I wanted to cordially invite you to my last performance tonight at the Collins House Restaurant in Merchantville, NJ - the restaurant is not closing at present, but entertainment is ceasing in the aim of saving money and weathering a difficult time. Perhaps if you all start taking some meals there (and asking, "When's Joann Ellis coming back?"), business will increase enough to warrant my return. Sound like a good idea?

But for now, we have tonight, so let me give you the details, and I'll hope to see you there. Click on the address for directions, or the map below:

2 S. Centre St, Merchantville, NJ, 08109

That's it for the nitty gritties. Stay tuned for more blogs to come, with May gig info, and more. And in the meantime, feel free to visit my other sites below for more Joann Ellis new - music and otherwise:

earthrevolution v.3

The below post is from baby's first blog, created a few years back, called "earthrevolution." I just discovered it again, realizing it's been neglected for years. Now, no promises, but perhaps I will bring it back to life sometime in the future - you'll have to wait and see! (with held breath, no doubt...)

Anyway, I'll quote the text below. It's short and sweet. And I am tired and overtaxed. So I'm off to bed.

May you all be well, in good health, and enjoying your sleep!
Peace,
Joann

"well, it's been a long time...and i'm not posting a 'real' post now, just a quick note to any person who somehow randomly finds this blog - i may resurrect this one (earthrevolution) at some point, but for now, i refer you to my other blogs here on Blogger.

You are also welcome to visit any, or all, of the following sites:

MySpace - personal v.45

Good morning, early birds...

I'm just up viewing a little eye candy before bed. No, not pretty faces or pretty keyboards, but some BMX magic from X Games 12 last summer. This is a video of Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana doing a ridiculous thing...and good thing he landed it!

Surprised to see this kind of stuff on my blog? I've actually been fascinated by the worlds of skating and biking for some years now - there's quite a lot of talent there. At some point in the near future I'll post some videos of some of the greats and well-knowns of the sports:

Hmm...I guess I'll put in the extra effort and give you one more video! This one's Tony Hawk's Secret Skate Park Tour 3 (26-Sept-2006), footage from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada:

I will certainly put more vids of this stuff up in the future, but I think this is enough for now. I hope you liked this little bike/skate nugget, surely the first (but not last) of its kind. To be honest, I've actually been thinking of taking up skateboarding myself. We actually have a skatepark here in Medford! What do you think - am I still young enough in body to do it (at 28)? I guess we'll see! Good thing Michael has a board, I can borrow his...

Must get to bed.
Peace & good dreams.
Joann

MySpace - music v.38

Hey folks!

Just wanted to remind you I have a couple of websites floating around there in the internet ethernet, just waiting to be pounced upon.

One of them is the Songbird Podcast site, which actually isn't a real podcast *yet* - just a few songs from my library. Two of them you'll currently find here on the MySpace profile - How It Would Be (original) and Lilac Wine (cover).

Here you'll also find a bonus track: a cover of "Elizabeth, You Were Born To Play That Part," a forlorn little number from the album 29 by one of my most favorite songwriters of late, the infamous Ryan Adams. (Btw: 29 was his third - that's right THIRD - album of 2005! Gross, I know...)

***

Anyone vote for me to make it a real Podcast and start putting up some clips of me jabbering over the mic, a cappella, about what-have-you?

Or should I keep it music, and finally put another song up?

***

Let me know what you think...if you think anything of it. And one more thing - a major difference between the Songbird Podcast and this site is that it allows you to DOWNLOAD all the songs. If that interests you, be sure to check it out!

***

Oh, yeah......for those of you who didn't know, I also have a personal profile here on MySpace. I have the profile as #1 on my Friends list, for easy reference...it looks something like this:

I guess that's about it - again! Hope you're all doing well...

Peace,
Joann
